How to Generate and Print Barcode Labels for Your Products (Free)

Proper bin locations and fast picking both depend on having a real barcode on every product — not a photo of one, not a SKU written in marker. The free Fulnex Barcode Generator creates print-ready labels in Code128, EAN-13, Code39, or QR, laid out for standard Avery sheets or thermal label printers, with no account and no watermark.

Before you start

  • A list of your product SKUs (or a CSV export)
  • A label sheet (Avery 5160/5163 or similar) or a thermal label printer

Choose a barcode format

Pick the format that matches what your scanner and any external marketplaces expect.

  • Code128 — best default, accepts any characters (letters, numbers, symbols)
  • EAN-13 — required if you sell on marketplaces that need a real retail barcode (needs exactly 12 digits; the checksum digit is added automatically)
  • Code39 — widely supported by older scanners
  • QR — no length limit, useful for encoding more than just a SKU
Tip

If you're not selling on a marketplace that requires EAN-13, Code128 is the simplest choice and works with virtually every barcode scanner.

Add your products

Add products one at a time, or paste/import a CSV to generate labels for your whole catalogue at once.

  • Manual entry works fine for a handful of new SKUs
  • CSV import handles bulk catalogues — paste SKU, name, and price columns
  • Each row becomes one printable label

Pick your label layout

Choose the physical layout that matches what you're printing on.

  • Avery 5160 — 30 labels per US letter sheet, the most common office label size
  • Avery 5163 — 10 larger labels per sheet
  • Thermal label (100mm x 50mm) — one label per page, for Zebra/Brother-style thermal printers

Choose what shows on the label

Toggle which fields print alongside the barcode itself.

  • SKU — usually always on
  • Product name — helpful for staff scanning visually, not just by machine
  • Price — useful for retail shelf labels, skip it for internal warehouse-only labels

Print or save as PDF

Print directly from the browser onto your loaded label sheets, or save as PDF to print later or send to a print shop.

Important

Always print one test sheet first and hold it up against a blank label sheet before committing a full run — printer margins vary slightly between machines.

What you should see

Labels print aligned to the label sheet's real dimensions — no manual margin adjustment needed if you picked the matching layout in Step 4.

Troubleshooting

EAN-13 barcode won't generate

EAN-13 requires exactly 12 digits (the 13th checksum digit is added automatically). If your SKU has letters or the wrong digit count, switch to Code128, which accepts any characters and has no length restriction.

Labels print misaligned on my Avery sheet

Confirm you selected the layout that exactly matches your physical label sheet (e.g. Avery 5160 vs 5163) — they have different label counts and dimensions. Also check your browser's print dialog has 'scale' set to 100%, not 'fit to page'.

My scanner won't read a printed barcode

Check the barcode wasn't printed too small for your scanner's minimum bar width, and that you're not printing in a very light/thin print mode. Thermal printers especially need a fresh ribbon or full toner level for reliable scans.
